The path starts at Venice Pier on Washington Boulevard, goes to Marina del Rey, Santa Monica, Playa del Rey, Pacific Palisades, or Palos Verdes, and runs along the sand in Venice, stretching 22 miles (34 km).

The pier that was opened in 1905 was not 900 feet long though it was a whopping 1200 feet! They added the extra 300 feet to the plan as sort of a buffer for any future storms.
